Lots of times people introduce me as “the genealogy lady.” This week I am going to introduce you to the Genealogy Guy. His name is Robert Ragan. He has been making videos and genealogy information available for years. If you want to learn how to do genealogy from the convenience of your own computer,he will share his expertise with you,online. Mr. Ragan says,“One of my main goals is to empower you. I want you to be able to sit at your computer,discover new genealogy research skills,and have exciting experiences when you find some of your ancestors both on-line and off-line.”
The Genealogy Guy has some great videos that you can watch on You Tube. First you go on the Internet to http://www.youtube.com. In the search box,type Genealogy Guy. Many of his videos are available here. They will come up as play list results for genealogy guy. His latest video is titled “Get Original Genealogy and Family History Records with FamilySearch New Record Search Pilot Site.” This one teaches you how you can get free copies of original genealogy records from the new FamilySearch Record Site. He shows the computer screen and you will see a yellow highlighting circle as he speaks to help you learn how to navigate the site. He is a great teacher and makes it easy to learn,and you can watch the video over and over until it sinks in!
He has developed the Pajama Genealogy Research System. He asks,“Who else wants a unique and simple,step-by-step method that lets you do most of your genealogy from the comfort of home in your pajamas?” He also sells some “5 Minute Internet Genealogy Video Lessons” on CD. You can find those at http://5minutegenealogy.com/. He charges for the CD lessons for both of these systems.
The You Tube videos will also link you to Treasure Maps,his website with free tutorials. The website is found at http://amberskyline.com/treasuremaps/ Watch out for the ads at the top,but the free information is easily accessible if you click the words listed at the left under Popular Genealogy Tutorials. From the Treasure Maps Genealogy home page you can click on the gold link and get the free Treasure Maps E-mail Newsletter sent to you. His recent blog (a web log) posts are also available to read. Anywhere you see the link “Watch this video to see how it works:” you can click and watch the free tutorials online.
