My mother is an example of strength, perseverance and a positive outlook on life. I grew up in a single parent household and watched my mother work hard to keep everything running smoothly. She shielded us from any financial difficulties and always had a smile on her face. As children we never saw our home as small or felt we were in tough times. We enjoyed life, family, friends, church, and even school. Recently I went back to the two homes we grew up in. Boy,were they small but I only have wonderful memories of my childhood. Our family’s Matriarchs were strong examples in my life,my grandmother (Nana) who will be 91 this year and my mom.
I grew up with two sisters both younger than me. As the oldest I was the ring leader in causing trouble, usually by teasing my sisters to no end. Back in those days mom would send us out of the house to play. We always felt safe and enjoyed playing baseball and football in the streets. There were no computers or video games;just friends and our imagination.
Let me share a story of a daughter’s love for her mom. I received a call from a friend who inquired about a Reverse Mortgage. Her mother was a widow living by herself. “My mom had fallen and broken her hip and is now going through rehabilitation. Mom is planning to go back home but may now need some in-home care to help with daily chores and run errands.”
I helped them research the benefits of a Reverse Mortgage and talked to several family members. “Everyone felt it would be a wonderful way for mom to receive the assistance she’d need after returning home.” Seeing the delight in her mother’s eyes when this solution was presented was a great reward for me. A Reverse Mortgage is versatile option for many retirees and their families.
