St. George Pain Management offers a multi-modality pain management model. Most pain management programs offer primarily interventional care. The multi-modality program is inclusive of not only interventional but also many other important facets of comprehensive pain management.
Patients are taught the importance of focus on mental health in their pain management regimen. This includes components of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT),visual imagery (VI) and progressive relaxation. In conjunction with these efforts a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or mental health care professional referral is made where appropriate.
Much effort is made in our program to appropriately empower our patients. This entails thorough efforts to educate each patient regarding their personal care.
Our professionals are trained to manage medication prescribing which is tailored to the very special and individualized needs of each pain patient. The focus covers five areas:
1) Increased quality of life
2) Increased function
3) Decreased pain
4) Awareness and vigilance of side effects associated with opioid management
5) Safety
