You Get What You Pay For… Comparing Apples To Apples

When looking for an assisted living facility for you or your loved ones, and as you compare Apples to Apples. This article is on the difference of a Level I and Level II and why the prices can vary from facility to facility.

As your needs for care increase and you need more involved care, the pricing will be different. Pricing on the base rate can vary depending on the facility, whether it is licensed as a Assisted living Level I or Level II.  The difference is a Level I facility is where the resident will require less assistance, and is more independent.  A caregiver is available at the facility in most cases it will be a non-skilled caregiver.  If a resident in a Level I facility, becomes more dependent they may be required to leave the facility and move into a Level II.  This can be very disruptive for the resident and family.

In a Level II a CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) is required to be available 24 hours per day to assist the resident with their “ADL’s” which stands for activities of daily living. For example assisting a resident with bathing, dressing, toileting, incontinence care, and transferring.  When a resident requires assistance in two or more ADL’s then the resident should be in a Level II. As a Level II facility the resident can be able to transfer with one person to assist and can provide more involved care.  The level II can accept residents who are independent to where they may become very dependent and still be able to stay in the same facility.  They will not be required to leave in most cases as their needs increase.
