Affordable Funerals In A Changed Economy

Issue 25.12

My name is Arvin Hansen, and I would like to share my story with you.  I am a licensed funeral director and embalmer.  My wife, Sherrill, and I owned two funeral homes in Burley and Rupert, Idaho.  After fifty years of working in the funeral industry in Idaho, Sherrill and I moved to St. George.  It is here that we found SereniCare, a funeral home that offers affordable funerals in a changed economy.

Prior to our move, Sherrill and I both knew there was a great need for affordable funerals.  We had friends and family who were concerned about their loved ones and their ability to pay for a funeral.   We were also keenly aware of the high costs associated with operating a traditional funeral home.  It is very expensive to run a large facility and these costs get passed on to the public.  Large buildings equal high prices.  We do not fault the concept; it served us well in the past.  But times have changed and with the state of the economy, this concept is becoming outdated.

SereniCare owners Lane Smith and Dick Johnson created a new concept in funeral service – affordability.  They realized that many people were struggling with funeral costs beyond what they could afford to pay.  Lane and Dick chose to open funeral homes by leasing existing business park locations instead of building a multi-million dollar facility.  This gives them the opportunity to keep overhead costs low and pass on the savings to the families they serve.

We were so impressed by the concept of affordability that Sherrill and I too became SereniCare owners.  We are proud to say that we offer an affordable funeral for everyone.  Our SereniCare family strives to touch the lives of the families we serve.  We acknowledge religious preferences and family traditions and strive to assist families during a difficult time.

We would be delighted to have you call or stop by to meet our Southern Utah family and to tour our facility.  We are located at 1316 S. 400 E. in St. George, or you may contact us at (435) 986-2085.
