Assisted Living vs Skilled Nursing Facilities

Issue 4.13

What is the difference between an assisted living and that of a nursing home (care center or a skilled nursing facility)?

Skilled Nursing Care means a facility that provides 24 hour inpatient care to residents who need licensed nursing supervision. The facility shall ensure that nursing staff are present on the premises at all times to meet the needs of patients.

Assisted Living as defined by the State of Utah is “Assisted Living shall not provide skilled nursing care, but must assist the resident in obtaining required services. Shall provide care in a home-like setting that provides an array of coordinated supportive personal and health care services available 24 hours per day to residents who need any of these services

Assisted living residents are usually seniors who have had a slight decline in health in some way and need assistance performing one or more activities of daily living (ADLs). These include assistance with medication reminders, bathing/dressing, incontinence, toileting reminders, transferring and safety concerns if they are a high fall risk; a place where care is easily accessible whenever the senior may need it.

At Platinum Care Assisted Living we are an intimate setting with 12 private rooms each with private baths. We have CNA’s on staff 24 hours per day.  A separate cook to prepare dietician approved home cooked meals and a salad bar with each lunch. We do individual laundry, housekeeping, change the linen weekly, activities and entertainment and most important enhanced personal care for each resident.  We will take our residents to their dental and doctor appointments as needed, if family is unavailable.

Our pricing is all-inclusive with no hidden fees so you know what you are paying for up front.  We are a licensed as a Level II Assisted Living, which means our residents can stay with us and age in place. They will not be required to move if they decline.  Each resident and their loved ones become part of our family.

We are located in a quiet area just off of Snow Canyon Parkway and below the ballparks on Tuweap. Rick is an RN and has been in the medical field for over 20 years and in home care and hospice for over 15 years.  We are a resident advocate for all residents whether they stay with us or not. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Rick or Kris at 313-4823.
