A Brush With The Eternal

Issue 1.14

I began working in home health and hospice care in 2003 and quickly developed a love for serving others in their times of need.  I became especially interested in all that a good hospice program has to offer and I have enjoyed working closely with special individuals during the final months, days and moments of their lives ever since.  However, it took me a long time to become comfortable thinking and talking about death on a regular basis.  Here are a couple of thoughts that have provided me with a great sense of peace and reassurance.

As a hospice company, we are privileged to share some of the most special and intimate experiences with those who are nearing the end of life.  Whether it be a year or two, several months or just a few days, there is often a common feeling which is shared by the patients we serve – the feeling of fear.  Fear of the unknown.  Fear of what will happen to earthly possessions and loved ones being left behind.  And, fear of what it will be like once they have passed away.  It is our job as a good hospice company to help eliminate or, at least, calm fears such as these as best we can.  However, it is not uncommon for us to receive unexpected assistance in this work.  It is my personal belief, as we near the end of life, that friends and loved ones who have already left us will help us and guide us as we pass from this life to the next.  This belief has been reaffirmed again and again over the years as I have observed hospice patients receive special visits – from parents, grandparents and others who have passed away – which have helped to calm their fears and assist them in their passing.  Feelings of fear and anxiety are often replaced with those of peace and serenity.

At Zion’s Way Home Health & Hospice we are committed to providing exceptional care for the patients and families we serve, wherever they call home.  Our services are fully paid for by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances.  For more information about receiving medical care within the comfort of your own home, please call us today at 435-688-0648.
