Connect With Friends And Family On Facebook

Issue 24.15

If you are among the growing army of seniors who are joining the technological revolution, you’ve certainly heard of Facebook. Simply put, Facebook is the easiest way to stay in touch with friends and relatives, no matter where they live or how busy they may be. It’s free to anyone with an internet connection and a “smart phone” or computer. It allows you to post photos and videos, or to comment on the things that other people want to share with you. You don’t have to remember addresses or phone numbers, and you can communicate with dozens of people without ever having to repeat yourself. You can even meet new friends in faraway places!

So now that you see the benefits of pushing beyond your comfort zone, how do you get started with Facebook? Here are a few suggestions that will get you up to speed in no time:

1) If you don’t already have one, ask a child, grandchild or techsavvy friend to help you get the right smartphone or computer for your needs. They can help you setup an internet connection, an email address and a facebook account.

2) If you are adventurous enough to try Facebook without assistance from a friend or loved one, take advantage of helpful resources such as

. It will show you all of the steps you need to get started on your new adventure!

3) Once you have a free Facebook account, go to Facebook.com, then type “Spring

Gardens Senior Living” in the Facebook search bar.

4) When you see the Spring Gardens page, click the “Like” button in the bottom corner of the main photo.

5) You are now linked to the friendliest senior living community in the world! This means that photos, event announcements, food coupons and more will show up on your

Facebook  page 2 or 3 times per week. You don’t even have to go to the Spring

Gardens page to see them! They will be posted on your personal page, along with content from other friends and organizations that you follow.

6) When you see something interesting on your page, you can “Like,” Comment” or

“Share” the post with others. These simple interactions will keep you linked to the people that you love the most, introduce you to new friends, and give you an opportunity to post your own content.

It’s time to join your family, your friends and millions of other seniors on Facebook. We will be watching for you!
