Genealogy Corner… Memories Gallery

Issue 47.15

FamilySearch is updating their existing memory pages. They will be turning on a banner with an option to “Try the new Memories Gallery” based on a percentage designated by the engineers. In other words, it is a slow rollout, starting with ten percent and increasing over time, until it is released to everyone. The memories gallery will be released in all ten languages at the same time, to any FamilySearch user.

The changes include gallery organization. You will have more options about how you can view your uploads. You can see all memories you have uploaded in one place by selecting All from the Show icons and selecting My Memories from the list. You can choose to see only a specific type of memory by selecting the icon from the Show icons. The camera is for photos. The book is for stories. The layered paper is for documents and the microphone is for audio. Then you can see all or a specific type of memory within an album.

You will have the option to filter the memories showing by clicking the magnifying glass icon and typing the filter value in the provided box. It filters based on the title of each memory. You also have additional options to arrange or sort the memories. Here you can choose from the newest added, the titles, those without titles or those not tagged yet. You can quickly see all of your albums and create new ones. This will help with sorting of families and it makes it easier to tag the photos when they are in the right family to begin with.

FamilySearch will add the ability to upload multiple files, including multiple types of files, at the same time. You can upload the files using the manual browse option or use the drag and drop version like previously available. When uploading files with file extensions of .jpg, .tif, or .png, it will know it is a photo and automatically default to the Photos memory type. You will not be able to upload an image file under documents. You can still switch image files between photos and document using the document setting under details after going to each memory individually. PDF files will automatically upload as documents. You can upload files directly into an album and they will also appear in the complete My Memories list.
