Preplanning Cremation: Where to Begin?

Issue 2.16

A new year has begun, and many individuals are interested in putting their affairs in order.  Preplanning your final arrangements is an excellent way to accomplish this resolution.  As you begin the cremation preplanning process, it is important to remember that you are not just planning for yourself. You are making arrangements and decisions that will greatly affect your loved ones.

Simply telling your family members or friends that you wish to be cremated is not enough.  Utah law requires a person to provide written directions, or “advance directions.”  These directions include designating a funeral service establishment, providing directions for cremation arrangements, providing your signature as well as the signature of two unrelated witnesses, and providing resources to carry out the directions.  At the Cremation Center of Southern Utah, we help you simplify this process.  Planning ahead with us can be accomplished in three simple steps:

Decide what you want to take place in the event of your death. Services can be simple or elaborate, religious or secular. You should keep in mind what your family or close friends may want or need. We will help you select a package that is right for you.

Place in writing your wishes and vital information. Our professionals will guide you through this “advance direction” process. We provide all authorization forms and other pre-planning documentation forms free of charge. We keep your personal information private and secure.

Provide resources to pay for your service. Paying in advance freezes the costs. Your funds are protected and are completely transferable in the event you move out of the area. Convenient payment plans are available.

Preplanning allows you to enjoy peace of mind knowing your wishes will be honored and the burden of making difficult decisions will not be on the shoulders of your loved ones.

We understand that you may feel intimidated to begin the pre-planning process.  Our goal is to provide a non-threatening environment where you may select the options that appeal to you.  You will not be pressured or further contacted against your will.  Your comfort and privacy are of the utmost importance.
