Widows and Widowers… Maybe We Can Help

Issue 4.16

Sometimes the death of a spouse comes unexpectedly like a thief in the night – an accident or devastating medical illness.  Sometimes it comes slowly, after months or years of physical or mental decline.  Either way, when you have shared 20, 40 or even 60 years of your life with another person, and that person is taken from you – your life is changed forever.  Your world has been turned upside down & maybe you’re asking yourself — “How am I going to cope?”

Trying to explain the pain you are experiencing to someone else is like trying to describe the color purple to a blind person.  You are now the member of an exclusive club that nobody wants to be a member of.  Widows and widowers commonly experience feelings of isolation, loneliness, discomfort in social situations & abandonment.  Unfortunately, some people don’t have family or friends nearby to lean on.

Research has shown that widows (women) experience greater difficulty with social situations and feelings of loneliness.  On the other hand, widowers (men) find it harder to cope with daily activities including household responsibilities.  I believe that the BeeHive Cottages can be the answer to many of the issues that our senior widows and widowers struggle with on a daily basis.  At the Cottages, we have many residents who have been through similar experiences and can provide support in helping you to make this transition.  I can tell you dozens of stories of our residents, who after moving into our Cottages actually became healthier, happier, and more active.   New friendships were formed and with no home to look after, it was easier for them to get out & try new activities.  One of the key benefits to our Cottages is that there is always plenty to do & someone to do it with!  An active lifestyle can distract us from things in our life that might not be ideal & help us to focus on the quality of life that we can still have.

In addition, our BeeHive Cottages staff assists you by handling all the daily activities that may seem overwhelming to you now — doing all the shopping, cooking, housekeeping, and laundry.  You don’t have to worry about buying groceries, keeping up with the maintenance of a home, or even driving yourself around town.   We are there for you to provide all the personal assistance you need without intruding on your privacy.  We do all the chores & you have all the fun!

I encourage you to come see how BeeHive Cottages can help you to begin a new chapter in your life!  Come join us for a free lunch & experience the newest innovation in Senior Independent Living!
