Dear Ben… Roll Out

Dear Ben: What can I do to get more storage space in my cabinets?

DEAR NEEDS SPACE:  Make the space you have usable. Most cabinets lack pull out (Roll Out) shelving.  Base cabinets are generally not utilized because of the inconvenience of getting on your hands and knees; pulling everything out to get to the one thing you need in the very back corner. Roll Out Shelves can be added to existing cabinets.  I highly recommend hiring a professional to make and install Roll Out Shelves.  Specify the need for a well-built drawer style shelf, heavy duty drawers guides of at least 100 pound rating (Let’s load these babies up), and if your cabinets have the large wood divider between doors specify to have that removed and mounted to the door to gain full access to large base cabinets.   Roll Out Shelves range in cost, for planning purposes $100 each is a good budget installed, 2 per base cabinet is generally the most useful.  Custom pull out trays are also available for blind corner cabinets.  This is the cabinet that goes behind another cabinet in a corner. The one you have to climb inside to pull things out, and may also be used for playing hide and seek.  Specify a tray that not only rotates out of the corner, but that also pulls out to you to access the back of the tray.  Trash Pull Outs are another great way to utilize space.  They pull out to you, can store your grocery bags, trash bags, your trash can, and are a very clean alternative to trash over flowing under your sink.   Thanks for the great question!
