Genealogy Corner… Tree Seek

Issue 46.10

Finding the perfect chart to represent your genealogy can be a challenge.  It was this challenge that motivated Misbach Enterprises to start creating charts over 50 years ago.  They began by publishing blank charts to be filled out by hand.  These charts are still available at http://misbach.org/.

Now they are attempting to make this easier by filling out the chart for you.  They do this by obtaining your genealogical information from FamilySearch.  The only thing you need to do is provide a starting point to begin creating your chart.  This service is only available to those who have an account with New FamilySearch.  They are a certified FamilySearch affiliate service that cares about your data.  They will not share your information with anyone.

http://www.treeseek.com/ Tree Seek is a program to easily create quality family history charts.  They do all the work for you, (except the actual printing) by obtaining your genealogy from FamilySearch.  You must have a FamilySearch account to log into a Tree Seek Account and create your free charts.  This program is in Beta, meaning it is still under construction.  So it is free to use for the time being at least.

I tried the Tree Seek program; it is very easy to use.  It doesn’t have a feature to allow someone to sign in as a helper so you can only print your own chart, not your living descendants or anyone else living.  You can select the type of chart you would like to create. They have a nine generation fan chart you can create in color or black and white.  You can create either a 9 or 10 generation pedigree chart, much like the traditional large pedigree charts that we used to have to fill out by hand.  At this point it only prints the names; it doesn’t add the dates and places.  Because this is a beta version, I imagine that is in the works.   It also prints picture charts, a 4 generation picture pedigree, a 4, 5 or 6 generation paternal picture chart or a 3 generation family group picture chart.  The pictures need to be uploaded to Photoloom.com and labeled with the new FamilySearch PID.

It also prints a fun Name Cloud chart that can be used for t-shirts, blogs, or to examine for hours looking for your name.  This chart is created by taking all the names from your first 9 generations of ancestors. The larger the name the more common or frequent that name appears in your ancestry.  Not only is this chart unique to you, the colors and name placement are unique each time it is created.
