A Fun Week For Seniors… Something For Everyone

barbara-leadenhamIssue 13.11

I know November seems a long way off but we have a lot to organize before then to give all our readers and every one in Southern Utah over age 50 a great week of fun and entertainment. We are starting early to tell you about it so you can get prepared to join in the events if you wish or just come and be a spectator.

We are trying to have events that cover most things that seniors fit or not so fit can take part in.

Every day we will be having several different competitions such as Pickle Ball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Lawn Bowls, Horse Shoes, Talent, Bridge, Pinochle, Dominoes, Dog Show, Baking, Quilting, Sewing, Crocheting, Knitting, Art and Photography.

We will be putting an entry form in the paper soon for you to fill in the competitions you would like to take part in, if there is some other competition that we have missed that a lot of you like to do please contact us and we will try and add it to the list.

For each event that takes place we need volunteers to help, so if you would like to be a volunteer please call the Sampler office or send us an email and also let us know if you have a specialized knowledge of any of the events.

If you don’t wish to take part in the competitions come and be a spectator, we shall have lots of other things going on throughout the daytime as well as the competitions, including lunch, entertainment games of Wii and Bingo and much more.

On Friday and Saturday there will be a large Expo with lots of interesting booths and different foods, along with a Vintage car show and Harley bikes, a Craft fair put on by the Washington Community Center, a fashion Show, a bake sale and a silent auction.

We are also arranging a special event for each evening of the week, a Senior Talent Show with a performance also from our judges James O’neil Miner, Melinda Larsen and if he can arrange it another well known very popular male Singer the seniors love, a BBQ Beach party at the side of the fun pool at the Community Center with a rock and roll band, a Country night with well known country bands, a Concert at the Cox Theater, a special night for the Veterans and to finish the week a Grand Gala Dinner and Ball.

We are still finalizing what’s on which day as we are waiting for some of our celebrities to finalize their day, as soon as we have all this information we will give you a rundown of the program.

All the proceeds that we make will go to our local Veterans to help them furbish the new Veterans Nursing Home to be built in Ivins later this year; it is our goal to be able to give them a check for a $100,000 towards the $500,000 they need to raise to fit the home out.

If you would like to help by donating something you have made like a quilt or a painting, or a craft item that you think would sell at the silent auction it would be much appreciated, the more items we get the more interesting the silent auction will be and the nearer to reaching our goal of $100,000. If your items are already made, they may be donated at any time, if you wish to make something especially for the auction then we would like it by October please.

This fun week event is to be held Monday November 7th to Saturday November 12th at the Washington Community Center, we hope it will be an event you will all want to come and join in.
