Genealogy Corner… RootsTech 2012

Issue 43.11

February 2–4, Salt Lake City, Utah
RootsTech is a leading edge conference designed to bring technologists together with genealogists, so they can learn from each other and find solutions to the challenges they face in family history research today. At RootsTech, genealogists and family historians will discover emerging technologies to improve their family history research experience.

I went to the first RootsTech conference held last February and it was awesome!  It really was the greatest conference I have ever been involved with.  It was well attended by the best genealogists and technologists in the world of genealogy.  Many people described it as a rock concert type atmosphere because you could just feel the excitement in the air and it was so well planned.

Whether you are a software developer, a genealogist, a society member, technologist or a genealogy hobbyist, RootsTech is for you. This uniquely designed conference offers collaborative experiences to bring technology and genealogy together.

The sponsors are Microsoft, Oracle, Dell, Ancestry.com, Association of Professional Genealogists, Archives, Bright Solid from Great Britain, BYU, FGS, New England Historical Genealogical Society and the National Genealogical Society.  It will be held at the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.

Participants will:
• Discover emerging technologies and devices to improve research
• Learn from hands-on workshops and interactive presentations
• Collaborate with technology creators to advance family history through technology
• Educate technology providers about the needs of genealogists
Sessions are designed to interest novice, intermediate, and advanced technology users. Sessions will include:
• Hands-on workshops
• Interactive presentations
• Sneak peek demonstrations of upcoming new products and services
• Panel discussions
• Common interest gatherings
•  “Unconferencing discussions” (last minute sessions requested by attendees)

An early bird registration rate of $129 is in effect until November 30; after that date, the price will be $189.
