Genealogy Corner… Create A Genealogy Fan Chart

Issue 40.13

You can visualize your genealogy with ease like never before by creating your genealogy fan chart at https://createfan.com.  You to that website and then click login, to login to your FamilySearch Family Tree to gather your genealogy.  First you will need to make sure you have a log in for either an LDS Account https://ldsaccount.lds.org/sign-in/go/login.jsf or https://familysearch.org/

Once you have your account, go to https://createfan.com/ and click Login.  In the Sign In, TreeSeek is requesting access to your private FamilySearch information.  Sign in there with your FamilySearch or LDS account.  Once you are in, click on Create to view and save your fan chart.  Create fan says they are the world’s fastest genealogy fan chart generator, but it does say they are getting the data from Family Tree, and it will take two minutes.  Watch the bottom of your screen where it says “Waiting for Create Fan,” then it will come up and warn you about downloading the file.  You then click Keep.

Create fan has created a PDF (Portable Document Format) file of your fan chart.  Double click the file name to view your fan chart.  At this point you may print the fan chart but it will not be very readable on an 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper, so you will want to click File and then choose Save As.  The Save in: area at the top will likely say Downloads so you will want to redirect it to save the file where you can find it or to a USB thumb drive so that you can take it to the printers.  Then the file name will say something like: CreateFan_ShannaSullivan and you click Save.

Now you have saved your PDF version of the fan chart.  This set of instructions prints your fan chart, to print one for a spouse, parent, child or others, go to treeseek.com and click on Start Now!  Login to FamilySearch there by clicking the “Login” located below the FamilySearch logo, and sign in.  Click Create Tree and this will allow you to specify who you want to create the tree for.  Then you will create the chart and save it as above.
