Genealogy Corner… The Story Booth

Issue 51.13

In downtown St. George, Utah, in the FamilySearch Library located at 162 N. 400 E. on the second floor, you will find an oral history room known as the “Story Booth.”  Patrons are invited to use the Story Booth and take advantage of saving precious family histories in a variety of ways.  Registration is required to use the Story Booth.

To reserve the Story Booth, go to www.genealogynow.org and click the “Groups” tab at the top.  Under Oral History (Story Booth) On-Site option, you will be able reserve the Story Booth for 60 minutes.  They require you to purchase a USB drive at the FamilySearch Library, probably to protect them from any virus and avoid other problems.

Consider the following possibilities that families or individuals might come to use this helpful, high-tech facility that films and records the audio-visual event: A baptism, a major milestone, a couple becomes engaged, a mission call is received, a missionary returns, a baby is born, a family has a special occasion, a person wants to record the life stories of a family member, children and grandchildren ask grandparents questions, a special birthday is reached, a special “first” occurs in someone’s life or when special thoughts and words would be even better filmed and heard from the person themselves.

Help is provided at the FamilySearch Library to prepare those who wish to use it.  This is truly a unique experience.  The St. George FamilySearch Library invites you to not put off this special opportunity.  They say, “You will forever be glad you did.”

The St. George FamilySearch Library serves all of Southwest Utah and is not limited to those of the LDS faith.  They are open Monday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. They can be reached at (435) 673-4591 and the web address is www.genealogynow.org.  They are located just behind Café Rio on the second floor of the Workforce Services Building.
