Genealogy Corner… New FamilySearch Library Directors

The St. George FamilySearch Library welcomes Elder Michael Mickelson and Janis Mickelson as the new Directors of the St. George Library. The Mickelsons have been called as fulltime missionaries to lead the library for the next three years.

Elder Mickelson was born and raised on a small dairy farm in Lago, Idaho. He attended Idaho State Vocational School before serving an LDS Mission to Hawaii. He graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1967. He holds Master Degree in Engineering from Utah State University and worked for USU for the next five years managing their research farm in Vernal, Utah. In 1971 he accepted a job in Redding, California with CH2M Hill, a full service engineering, construction and operations company. After a successful 43-year career with CH2M and several family moves, he retired and moved to St. George with his wife to serve at the St. George FamilySearch Library. Elder Michelson has served in several Bishoprics, in the High Council, the High Priest Group Leadership, the Young Men Organization and Cub Scouting.

Sister Janis Mickelson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and grew up in Ogden, Utah. She graduated from Ogden High and then attended Weber State University for one year before transferring to BYU where she majored in Home Economics and graduated in 1967. Before starting their family, she taught school in the Provo area, helping her husband through BYU. After their son and daughter were grown, she worked for IBM and Siemens while they lived in Alpine, Utah. She has always loved serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has held many different callings including ward Relief Society president three times. She also served in the Stake Relief Society Presidency, the Young Women organization and has taught Sunday School and recently taught Primary.

The Mickelsons met at BYU and were married in 1966. They are the parents of two children, and grandparents of seven. The St. George FamilySearch Library is located at 162 North 400 East in Building B Suite #200 in St. George, Utah.
