Genealogy Corner… FamilySearch Partnership Apps

Issue 22.15

Currently FamilySearch.org has over 95 certified partner applications, or “apps” and that number is climbing fast! These partner apps include familiar websites such as Ancestry.com, findmypast.com, Ancestral Quest, and Puzzilla, and now there are many more.

If you are a FamilySearch user, this entitles you to more options and ways to assist your family history research, and some of the apps are just intended to make your research fun. Did you know there was an app called Fast Photo Game? You click on pictures of your ancestors before time runs out, while avoiding non-ancestors.

AboutOne Family Organizer is to manage your living family history and preserve the information you need to take care of your family and home. Family Chart Masters helps you created beautiful custom designed charts. Evidentia makes it easy to collect information, analyze evidence, and feel confident in your conclusions. You will find a Match Game with pictures of your ancestors, MacBridge for RootsMagic, Lives of the First World War, Personal Historian, RootsMapper and so many more.

“Partnering with FamilySearch means that these other websites are allowed to take information from FamilySearch and use it in their interface, helping you find more ancestors and broadening FamilySearch’s worldwide audience,” said Ryan Koelliker, product manager at FamilySearch. He explained the reasons they have partnered with so many other websites, and why they plan to add even more this year. “With millions of people globally searching their ancestors online, there needs to be wider access that caters to the needs of different cultures and users. After all, we deal with both the living and the deceased.”

Even gaming apps are being introduced on FamilySearch because we should stop thinking of family history as just a genealogy industry and more of an entertainment industry. After all, family history can be fun.  To see a list of all of the partner apps, go to https://familysearch.org/apps/ where you will find the FamilySearch App Gallery. Clicking All Categories will display all of them, but you can choose from Find Ancestors, Family tree software, Photos and Stories, Charts and Tree Views, and Tree Analyzing.
