Genealogy Corner… FamilySearch Update

Issue 25.15

At FamilySearch.org when you add photos from a person’s Memories page, Family Tree automatically adds a tag to the photo. You usually have to adjust the position and size of the tag, or the circle it draws around the person in the photo, and you may want to add a description or add tags to other people in the photo. That is easy if you add one photo at a time.

Many users prefer to upload several photos for a person and then adjust or add the tags. You used to have to go to the person’s Memories page between every photo, but now they have simplified the process. Arrows have been added to the page where you tag the photo. Open one photo, adjust or add the tags, and then click an arrow to go to the next or previous photo. You no longer have to go to the Memories page between each photo.

FamilySearch has added some new partners and certified products. You can always go to www.FamilySearch.org/apps to see which partners are added as their products are certified.

For consistency, the colors of different icons in FamilySearch are being changed. That way green equals green and soon purple will act as an indicator. You will see that now on the purple question mark at the bottom right part of the pages. Click the purple question mark to see Tips and a link to the help center documents.

For LDS members, there will be unreserving done automatically after two years of inactivity, so you will need to see to your responsibilities in a timely manner. It reminds me of the use it or lose it concept.

You will see Record Hints and Research Suggestions and even Data Problems all over the place. It is in the new Landscape Pedigree View which is now out to everyone, it is on the Logged in Home Page, which is in a slow rollout. You will also see them on the Portrait Pedigree, the Descendancy and under Hinting on each person’s page. I could probably bet you a milkshake that you can find something to link to your ancestors from that new feature alone.
