Genealogy Corner… St. George FamilySearch Library

Issue 26.15

We are lucky in St. George to have the St. George FamilySearch Library. A little birdie told me that ground should break on a new library on the block south of the temple later this year for a state of the art facility that will include a Discovery Center. A FamilySearch Discover Center is a new approach to family history where you see your ancestors come to life with interactive displays, fun facts, and exciting things to do.

The current St. George FamilySearch Library is located at 162 North 400 East Building B on the second floor. The summer maintenance closing runs from Monday, June 22 until it reopens on Monday, July 6, 2015. They will start off with a bang offering Youth Discovery classes. These classes are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. until noon, starting June 10th and 11th and continuing until August 5th and 6th. Youth will discover their first ancestor to come to America, their country of origin, find out if they have a pioneer ancestor, and learn to find and share their ancestor’s stories.

St. George FamilySearch Library will hold a FamilySearch Marathon the week of July 13 through July 18. They will teach classes all week, with one starting every hour. You can come in and out and learn quickly. It is your race, so you can come every day. They will also hold a FamilySearch Indexing Marathon, where you can help them index 5,000 names.

Visit www.genealogynow.org to see the listing of classes available and hours. They have trained volunteer Church Service Missionaries there to help you and answer your questions. You can reserve a class or just stop by and use their computers and get one-on-one assistance. It is a nice, cool way to spend a summer day!
