Principles of Freedom – A Chance to See, Think and Learn

Issue 26.15

I am going to do things a little differently this week. There is an event this Saturday morning, June 27th at 10 AM in the St. George Branch of the Washington County Library. It is a political convention for a small but growing political party.  I am offering an open invitation to those of any party who value liberty to attend. You don’t have to be a party member to attend – in fact you don’t have to agree with anything the party stands for. I am inviting all so that you can see a different kind of party and approach. The event is the Washington County Convention for the Constitution Party.

I have attended and participated in county and state conventions for both the Republican and Libertarian Parties and have spoken at the state conventions for both. I think you will find that the Constitution Party Convention is very different. No long and boring speeches, no trying to get you to vote for or against specific people. Simply a chance for people who care about the future and our freedoms to get together, hear a brief progress report from our state and national leadership and have a chance to stand and speak about what matters to you. The whole process should take about an hour and a half with time after to talk to those who feel as you do.

You won’t be strong-armed to contribute or serve, but you will be given an opportunity if you want it. One of the greatest things about so-called “third” parties is that candidates and delegates are free to stand for what they believe in without being shut down by party leadership. You are free to stand for principles more than politicians. There are only two things I know of that might cause consternation for some. The first is that the Constitution Party as a group believes that God was involved in founding this nation, protecting it and is still involved to the extent that we, as citizens, ask Him to be. We welcome our friends that don’t believe in God, but they won’t change this basic foundational mindset we have as a bedrock to what we believe. The other is that we believe government should be confined to the specific things we, as citizens, direct it to do and not be creating more controls and penalties that take our rights and restrict our freedoms to benefit the rich and powerful.

There is no cost or obligation if you choose to come. If you want to say your piece, you will be given three minutes to do so until the time we have together is gone. I hope to meet all who attend and you will even find out my true identity (Lynn West is a pen name).
