Genealogy Corner… Attach Sources Easily

Issue 39.16

FamilySearch announced last week that MyHeritage is providing a button to create a source in FamilySearch’s Family Tree. When viewing a MyHeritage historical record the button is available below the record details.

This feature is available now and will save you time as you expand your family tree using the great features of MyHeritage.com.

Here’s a simple way to give this new feature a try:

Sign in to FamilySearch.org.

Go to the Person page of an ancestor. Visit an ancestor’s profile page on FamilySearch and look to the right.

In the Search Records box on the right, click the MyHeritage link.

Click the name in the MyHeritage search results to see record details. You may need to sign in or sign up for your MyHeritage account. It is free for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Review the information and find a record of interest. Search through the records that appear for this ancestor. If you find one that is your ancestor, then you will have a source to attach right to your person.

Scroll to the bottom of the record page and click Attach source to FamilySearch in the lower left.

With the new Attach source to FamilySearch link on MyHeritage.com. With one click, you’ve stored a new source found on MyHeritage to an ancestor in FamilySearch. This is an awesome activity for you to do. Important sources can easily be attached to an ancestor’s history. You can enjoy the unlimited use of this new feature. Bring your ancestors to life, find new information, you may even find new relatives as you go that no one has ever found before!

Ancestry.com features similar functionality: Attach the record to a person in an Ancestry Member Tree, link that person to a person in FamilySearch Family Tree, and transfer the source.
