Genealogy Corner… Where did Arbitration go in Web Indexing?

Issue 22.17

In the new Web Indexing, online at https://familysearch.org/indexing/my-indexing access to a new activity in indexing called Peer Review will be given to all volunteers once they have indexed 1,000 records. To review a batch, you will receive a batch that was indexed by another volunteer and then review it for accuracy and completeness.
Participating in peer review gives indexers more experience by allowing them to see how others are indexing. It also helps speed the time it takes to publish the final index. Before you start reviewing a project, index several batches from that project, and become familiar with the project instructions. Continue to index a minimum of one batch in every ten that you review and preferably one in five that you review. As you review a batch, check each field to ensure that the indexing was done correctly. If you determine that information was entered incorrectly, correct the information.
To select a batch for peer review: on the indexing screen, click Find Batches. Next to the Activity box, click the down arrow, and in the drop-down, click Indexing Review – Peer. In the left margin, click the difficulty level of the projects you would like to see, and then click Search. Scroll through the projects list, and next to the selected project, click Start.
When the batch opens, the look is much the same as a regular indexing batch but includes a green arrow box at the end of each field. Press Tab or Enter on the keyboard to go from one field to the next. To complete a peer review batch, review the project instructions and field helps. Determine what information should be indexed in each field, and compare that information with what was entered. If the entry is correct, press Tab to continue to the next field. If the entry does not seem correct, consider these questions: How do the instructions indicate that the information should be indexed? Check the field helps, project instructions, and basic indexing guidelines. Does the document give additional clues? Look through the entire document for additional information in other areas. When the information in the batch is satisfactory, start the quality check, and after completing the quality check, submit the batch.
