Apples To Apples

How do you know what you are going to get when it’s time for you or a loved one to use assisted living?

When you are looking for an assisted living facility here are a few things to look for and questions to ask.  We all know the saying “compare apples to apples”.  To help in the choice of assisted living we have included what we feel are some of the most important apples to compare and questions to ask.  What is the actual cost per month?  What is included in the base rate care?  Are there any add-ons and how do they work?  Is it a flat fee or is it a point system?  Is it a month to month lease or is it for a specific time period?  Does the overall philosophy of the owners of the assisted living facility match your philosophy and heart?  Is it a local business or a large corporation?  Do the owners have experience in the medical field and are they available to you and your family member when needed?  What is the ratio for CNA’S to residents?  Are the meals approved and planned by a registered dietician and are they made from scratch or are they pre-packaged or can the meals be adapted to a special diet?  Is there a cook on staff or does the caregiver do the cooking? What happens when you come into an assisted living facility independent and healthy and your health declines are you required to move?  Find out what your bottom line is per month so that you or your loved one can have the proper and best care.  Enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing.  Watch for additional articles as we explain the apples to apples of the above points.

As the son-in-law of a former resident in the Ted Warthen Center (For almost 2 years), I want to thank you publicly for the level of care and attention my Mother-in-Law received. She was in hospice care for that time and the care she received was the most loving, caring, professional care I have ever witnessed. Thanks for posting this article and we wish you continued success. You both are truly a blessing to the assisted living community.
