Personal Stories Of WWII… My First Girl Friend

Issue 50.12

When I was a young man, an older friend of mine said to me “Pay close attention to how you do interesting and memorable things together with your first girl friend because you will remember these things for the rest of your life”.

Soon after that I talked to the personnel officer of a large organization about a job. He insisted that I take the job and start very soon.

I learned my job very well. I was far from home and was very lonely when I met this beautiful young lady. She did not have blond hair or blue eyes but she had a shape that made the heads of even the movie stars turn and stare. We learned much and did many exciting things together and became inseparable.

One day my boss said why don’t you take a week off and go visit your family. I did that but I hated to leave my girl friend for that long. One day my employer said to me “You have been doing such a good job that we are going to send you to Europe on assignment.”Oh yes, you have been working with the young lady and we would like you to go to Europe together. We will pay all of the expenses for both of you.”

We arrived in Europe in good time and went right to work doing what we had been trained to do. Our work took us to England and from there together we traveled to Denmark, Holland, France and other countries also. We had our main business in nearly all of the big cities of Germany. To say the least, our work was very important and exciting. She and I stayed very close and a few circumstances forced us to sleep together.

Because I was the leader of our team our employee presented me with a commendation for the good work I had done. We had such a wild time in some of those German cities that we got the distinct impression that we wore out our welcome but we accomplished and finished the objectives set out by our employer. My girl friend received blemishes and bruises on her skin numerous times but when we went back to our base in England, the beauticians brought her looks back to her original beauty. I was fortunate and did not receive any ugly marks on myself.

One day our employer told me that we had done everything that was expected of us and that I could now go back to America but they would like my girl friend to stay longer. For me to go back alone was for the best because she had expensive tastes and was now a very high maintenance lady and I could not afford her.

Back in America I was no longer needed in the old enterprise so I found other work. I did not forget my old girl friend and the image of her beautiful figure rushed through my mind quite often for the rest of my life.

I found a girl with more my tastes and we were married. Our children and grand children found out about that exciting time of my life and asked about it.

My old girl friend became famous and I often saw her picture in news papers and magazines.

She even starred in movies and a number of books were written about her.

Years passed and one day I read that she would appear in a neighboring city. I told my family that this would be the only chance for me to see her and would they come with me to see her. Some agreed to meet her and the day arrived to make the trip.

We arrived at the place and there she was standing like a queen. Her skin was just as smooth as when I last saw her. There were many waiting to meet her so we mingled with the crowd. When we got close my heart pounded and my breathing quickened. When I got close I know she beamed a bit. I then said to my wife, “Eloise, this is my first girlfriend, the famous B-17 Flying Fortress, the bomber I flew with in World War II.
