The Cost Of Doing Business In The Funeral Industry

Issue 50.12

Have you ever wondered how funeral homes set their prices and why some are more expensive than others?  The amount of overhead a business carries helps to determine the final cost of their services.   Overhead, or overhead expense, refers to the ongoing expense of operating a business.  In the funeral industry, these expenses may include real estate (including your building and grounds), property taxes, maintenance, utilities, insurance, vehicles, inventory, payroll, etc.  Normally, the more overhead expense a business carries, the more they have to charge the public for their services.  The funeral industry is no exception.

Times have changed.  In today’s harsh economy, many people find themselves with an ever-increasing amount of personal debt.  Even our nation runs on borrowed money.  With 2012 coming to a close and a fiscal cliff looming, many Americans are uneasy about their future.  Most people are looking for ways to downsize and eliminate extravagance, and some funeral homes are just that – unnecessary extravagance.

The Cremation Center of Southern Utah and SereniCare Funeral Home have simple philosophies – keep overhead low so the savings can be passed on to the public.  The most basic way we achieve this is through our facility.  Instead of maintaining a large building, we own a nice facility located in a business park, thus drastically reducing the most major expense any funeral home encounters.  We offer a viewing and funeral area perfect for smaller gatherings that will accommodate up to sixty people.  However, because many families are church-affiliated and prefer to hold a funeral at their meetinghouse, we do not charge the public to maintain a large, rarely-used chapel.

To us, you are not just a number.  We offer personalized service.  Each family that we serve is unique and we strive to exceed your expectations.  We invite you to personally tour and inspect our facility. We welcome your questions, concerns, and interest in every aspect of our business.  We are always full service, never full price.

The Cremation Center of Southern Utah and SereniCare Funeral Home are located just off Riverside Drive at 1316 S. 400 E., St. George, UT.  You may contact the Cremation Center at (435) 986-9100, and SereniCare at (435) 986-2085, or visit us online at www.cremationcentersu.com, and www.serenicare.com.
