Genealogy Corner… Change In St George Family History Expo

Issue 1.14

Holly T. Hansen, of Family History Expos, is holding a local Family History Retreat right here in St. George. Previously if you wanted to attend a retreat you had to drive to Salt Lake City, stay in a hotel, and eat out. This event is close to home with meals included.  This is a replacement for the annual Family History Expo that Holly previously held at the Dixie Center for the past ten years.

Take advantage of the chance to have some personal instruction and visit local repositories with people who know how to use the records. Holly will be teaching technology classes with Arlene H. Eakle teach in-depth research strategies and sharing how the pros do it. You don’t have to be a professional to research like one. Take advantage of the opportunity to attend this first ever Family History Retreat in St. George.

January 17-18, 2014 is the date; the Best Western Abbey Inn is the location. Things kick off on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. with an agenda of local repositories to visit and dinner in the evening.

Saturday morning instruction begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes software assistance, sound principles and strategies for successful research, lunch and specifics on setting goals to focus your research and basic sources used by professionals to successfully locate hard to find ancestors. Learn how to organize, preserve and share your research with others.

You may want to bring your laptop to load and begin using the software while you have hands-on instruction to get you off to a good start. One thing about Family History Expos they always have great classes and a chance to ask the pros how they do it. Plan to attend and increase your research understanding and skills.
