Principles of Freedom – Election Principles

Issue 18.16

Before I begin this week’s article, I want to make everyone aware of a wonderful opportunity coming up Tuesday May 10th at 7:00 PM in the council chambers of the County Building on the corner of Tabernacle and 200 East in St. George. G. Vance Smith is the President of the Freedom First Society and CEO of Robert Welch University. The Freedom First Society is non-partisan (they accept independents and members from all political parties) and the premiere organization that tracks the voting records of all members of the US Congress. They give backgrounds on the votes and evaluate how in line those votes are with the US Constitution. His presentation will focus on the deceptions currently being perpetrated on the American People and what we can do – with God’s help – to put our country back on the path to greatness. All those who are looking for a way to make a difference should attend. For more information, contact Patti Ehrheart at 435-218-3641.

The questions I am asked most often by friends and family are these – Who do you think will win the nominations and the presidency? And – Who are you going to vote for and why?

The answer to the first question is sadly “It is unlikely to be anyone who will actually work to bring us back into alignment with the Constitution.” The front-runners are obviously Trump and Clinton and both have very high negative numbers. In other words, neither are likely to have the support of a majority of Americans. According to a recent poll, 62% of Americans don’t like Trump and 56% don’t like Clinton. Clinton has a lead in the polls and her negatives are not as high as Trumps, but there are still conventions to decide and quite some time before the election.

If the numbers stay as they are or get worse, it is likely that many Americans will do one of three things. Either they will 1) Sit this election out if there is not a candidate they like, 2) Vote against one or the other, or 3) Actually take the time to look and see if there is an alternative candidate they can support.

I wholeheartedly encourage people to look at the third option. Not only voting for, but supporting alternative candidates is the best way to not waste your vote on continuing the increasing debt, continual war and erosion of personal freedom that has occurred during the administrations of both major parties. It does not seem to make much difference which party rules to the rest of us. The direction is still the wrong direction.

I recently attended the National Nominating Convention for the Constitution Party. For those of us who believe that only a return to Constitution Principles and a return to morality and principle in government and belief in God as a nation will preserve our freedoms, the three day event was an inspiration. I was amazed at the quality of the people there and their understanding and commitment. The Presidential ticket that will represent the Constitution Party is better prepared and more committed to correct principles than any of the likely candidates from the major parties. Darrell Castle (Presidential candidate) has been active in preserving our freedoms and working to educate the American People since helping to found the American Taxpayer Party in 1992. That party evolved into the Constitution Party. Scott Bradley (Vice-Presidential candidate) is probably the pre-eminent Constitutional Scholar in the nation. He has developed courses on the founding fathers and the principles of government they created and codified in the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Unless I find more qualified candidates, these two will likely get my vote.

As the other parties decide who will be their candidates, I hope that individuals will do their homework, compare what the candidates say and stand for with the principles of freedom, and make an informed decision rather than just rubber-stamping a candidate from any party just because we like that party.  Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. Find candidates that have principles and live by them and vote FOR someone for a change. It might just make a difference.
